Catholic Charities again asks all its communities to “Stock the Pantry” by contributing nonperishable food goods in order for the agency to meet the continued high demand for food assistance.
The food drive will continue through the month of March 2017. Catholic Charities is expanding its current food assistance program to its Thrift Center in northeast Wilmington, so the agency is looking to the public to help stock this new location. This neighborhood has limited access to large retail grocery stores, so the food assistance program will offer an additional resource to the community.
Donors can drop off food, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, and grocery store gift cards at Catholic Charities locations during regular business hours.
Other locations with food assistance programs are Bayard House in Wilmington, the Kent County Catholic Charities office in Dover, Casa San Francisco in Milton, and at Seton Center in Princess Anne, Maryland. Individuals interested in participating must apply for program membership by contacting the location closest to them: in New Castle County at 302-655-9624; in Kent County at 302-674-1600; in Sussex County at Casa San Francisco, 302-684-8694; or on the Eastern Shore at Seton Center, 410-651-9608. For those in crisis who need food immediately, Casa and Seton Center operate emergency food pantries.
Currently, Catholic Charities serves over 3,000 households each year through its food cooperatives and emergency food pantries.
In addition to nonperishable food and grocery store gift cards, Catholic Charities will also accept monetary donations in order to purchase additional food to fill bags for the food assistance programs.
