January 30, 2014 — (Wilmington, Delaware) — Families of individuals who are buried or entombed in the three Diocese of Wilmington Cemeteries – Cathedral, All Saints and Gate of Heaven – may now create and share free online memories of their deceased loved-ones, it was announced recently. The memorials, which can include stories and photographs, will be permanently displayed alongside a departed individual’s listing in the cemetery’s online database that became available last year.
“The online database has allowed families to access records of pertinent information about their deceased loved one’s and the cemetery and location where they are buried or entombed,” explained Mr. Mark Christian, Executive Director of Catholic Cemeteries for the Diocese of Wilmington. “Now when visitors search our burial database they can share memories, stories and photos on the memorial pages of their deceased family and friends. We are hoping that they submit this information so that we can build an online history book of the local community. We see this as a great opportunity to preserve our past for future generations. Everyone’s life story deserves to be remembered.”
This effort to document the life stories and legacies of those buried in the Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Wilmington using online memorials is possible through a partnership with webcemeteries.com, a cemetery technology company with hundreds of clients across the United States.
To access the on-line memorial page, log into www.cdow.org/cemeteries, single click on the “burial data base” on drop-down menu, select a cemetery or “search all,” enter the name of the deceased, click on name and click on tabs as needed. All information submitted will be reviewed and approved before being placed on the website.
