Deacon Jasper to be ordained to the Priesthood on May 20

Bishop Malooly will ordain Rev. Mr. Richard J. Jasper to the Priesthood on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Peter, Sixth and West Streets in Wilmington. Rev. Mr. Jasper was ordained to the Transitional Diaconate last May.

Born in 1974, he is the son of Mr. Richard R. Jasper and Kathryn Ann (Whitworth) Jasper of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. Rev. Mr. Jasper is a graduate of Saint Charles Borromeo Elementary School, Monsignor Bonner High School, and Cabrini College of Pennsylvania. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Communications. He served as a middle school teacher in Catholic schools in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Assistant Youth Minister at Saint John the Beloved Church in Wilmington, and performed a volunteer year of service at Seton Center, Catholic Charities’ multi-purpose community center in Princess Anne, Maryland before entering the seminary for the Diocese of Wilmington.

During his seminary studies, he worked in summer pastoral ministry and served a pastoral year at Saint Elizabeth Church in Wilmington. Over the last year, he has been in diaconate ministry at Saint Mary Magdelen Church in Wilmington while concluding his pursuit of advanced degrees at Saint Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland.
