Adult Confirmation

Bishop Malooly celebrates the Sacrament of Confirmation each year for those adults who have not yet completed their initiation. The dates for those celebrations this year are:

  • in English        Sunday, May 14, 2017             1 pm    Saint Margaret of Scotland and
  • in Spanish        Sunday, July 9, 2017               1 pm    Holy Cross.

These celebrations are for those over the age of 18 who have already been baptized and received their first Communion. It is the Pastor’s responsibility to ensure these individuals have been properly catechized for the reception of this Sacrament. It is also the Pastor’s responsibility to ensure that the proposed Sponsor meets all the requirements found in canon 874 of the Code of Canon Law. Please note that if an adult (anyone over the age of 7) is being baptized or received into the Catholic Church, the priest who baptizes or receives is also to confirm the person at the same celebration. Those who are being baptized or received into the Church at the Easter Vigil (or throughout the year) should not be made to wait to be confirmed.

For more information, please read the Memo to Parishes. It contains information for how parish staff members are to register candidates by completing this form. Please note: All candidates should obtain a recently issued Baptismal Certificate before they can register.

Once candidates have registered and been prepared to celebrate the Sacrament, they should be given the information sheet for the celebration they will be participating in. The sheets are celebration-specific and contain information on location, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, arrival, rehearsal, and seating for those with disabilities. The sheets can be accessed by clicking on the appropriate link:
