How Catholic Charities Helps
Catholic Charities Wilmington Thrift Center, operating for over 40 years in the city’s lower east side, provides gently used clothing, furniture, appliances, household goods, mattresses, and much more at deeply discounted prices. The center is open to the general public.
The center also serves as a neighborhood gathering place. It provides a spot for customers to visit with neighbors. In addition, the center links residents in need to information about and referrals to other community programs.
The Wilmington Thrift Center provides:
Quality pre-owned clothing, furniture, and other household items at below retail prices. The discounted goods help families stretch their income.
Application services for the Delaware Energy Assistance Program each year from October through March.
Information about and referrals to additional Catholic Charities programs and other community services.
Access to mental health and substance abuse counseling. Catholic Charities counselors can schedule counseling appointments at the neighboring Kingswood Community Center.

Those with limited funds can make their money go further by shopping at the thrift center. No appointment is needed to shop at the center. For those in a crisis, we coordinate a voucher system with our Basic Needs Program. Vouchers give eligible clients clothing or furniture at a deep discount or at no cost. Shoppers can then use their income for other necessities.
A visit to the Thrift Center can also provide shoppers with information about other programs available through Catholic Charities or other organizations that may be beneficial to the household.
The Wilmington Thrift Center is open Mondays through Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm.
