You are invited to attend BIC 2 the Wilmington Diocesan training conference BIC: Building Intercultural Connections at Holy Cross, Dover, DE on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
BIC 2 is for those who have celebrated the first BIC gathering at parishes in Wilmington, Milford, Bear or Seaford. The outstanding curriculum was designed by the Committee on Cultural Diversity of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and has been tested and refined here and in dioceses throughout the U.S. This is a free conference. A $5.oo offering can be made for coffee, pastries, and a delicious multi-cultural lunch. Participants are asked to bring their tan workbook from the U.S. Catholic Bishops Conference Building Intercultural Competence for Ministers if you have it. If you don’t have it, copies will be available.
This event is sponsored by the Diocese of Wilmington in partnership with the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops.
Those who attend this conference will strengthen their understanding and ability to integrate into their lives the BIC project of welcoming, receiving, and encouraging all emerging cultural groups into the Church. Participants will increase their competence in intercultural relations and communications. They will be able to present and embody the BIC project within their communities and daily lives.
1. Increase awareness regarding how to communicate appropriately and effectively with persons and groups in cultures other than one’s own.
2. Provide a rationale for the inclusion and integration of diverse cultural groups into the life and mission of the parish and diocese.
3. Articulate the vision of “a parish” in intercultural settings, including the manner in which the Magisterium understands the concepts of evangelization, the New Evangelization, and inculturation.
